Climate

Every season offers incredible attractions to see and do. During the spring, summer and fall, the valley, mountains and trails offer a wonderful backdrop to amazing sunsets and colors few have ever seen. With an average summer temperature of 76 degrees, the weather is just right. At night, the stars sparkle making this the perfect place to gaze and catch a meteor shower.

Located a quick twenty minute drive east of Taos in the Moreno Valley, Angel Fire sits on the valley floor at 8,420 feet, with the surrounding mountains rising well over 11,000 feet. At the northern end of the valley sits Wheeler Peak, rising 13,161 feet above sea level and is also New Mexico’s highest peak. Angel Fire in New Mexico truly is in the Land of Enchantment!

Angel Fire Ski Area

As one of a handful of privately owned ski mountains in the United States, Angel Fire is consistently ranked as one of the top family-oriented ski areas in the Rocky Mountains. From beginners to experts, the trails are well-groomed and offer more than 80+ unique runs to enjoy.

The ski season typically runs from mid-December through late March. The summit elevation drops more than 2,000 feet with three lifts to shuttle skiers back up. 

Of the 80+ trails, 21% are beginner, 56% are intermediate and 23% are expert runs. Additionally, the ski area offers an incredibly fun tubing area at the center of the lifts by the main village. New this season are a series of boarder cross/skier runs offering high berms, sweeping turns, small, medium & large rollers. For cross-country skiers, there are 4 glade or tree trail areas totaling 30 acres and all glades are designated as advanced terrain.

Lessons and equipment rentals are available almost anywhere in Angel Fire and are reasonably priced. Overnight equipment storage is also available in the ski village, with a free shuttle that runs all day during operating hours to take skiers and equipment to the lower parking areas and condos. These shuttles run approximately every ten minutes during the ski season. There are two main places to eat at the ski lift area, with both offering a wide-range of food and drinks: Village Haus and Sunset Grille. If the weather permits – both places have plenty of outdoor seating to take in the amazing scenery.

Angel Fire Bike Park

Angel Fire Bike Park is the largest Bike Park in the Rocky Mountains and has been voted ‘Best in the Southwest’ by MTBparks.com 4 years in a row! Come experience our 2,000+ vertical feet, 60+ miles of purpose built lift-served terrain featuring the best skinnies, jump lines, manicured flow and super chunk trails the United States has to offer. Whether you are beginner or a pro – there are runs for every skill level. A typical trail will take around thirty minutes to go from the summit to the base as you wind through some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. A word of advice – know your skill level and you’ll have an amazing time. The bike pro shops are located throughout the village and will help with equipment and advice. Just remember to bring your camera!

Zipline Adventure Tours

An unforgettable way to take in the surroundings is to take the Angel Fire Zipline Adventure Tour! With six ziplines at the top of the mountain, you’ll soar above the Moreno Valley on lines ranging from 120 to 1,600 feet in length. Available only during the summer months, you reach speeds up to 55mph as you take in the beautiful Sangre de Christo mountains. Pricing ranges from $49 to $99 depending on the number of runs you wish to take. The ziplines are subject to weather conditions and although no reservations are required, they are recommended. Weight restrictions are discreetly measured and must range between 90 and 250lbs for rider safety. Group discounts are also available for parties of sixteen or more. Angel Fire Golf Course

Come tee off at 8,500′ on a challenging, par 72, 6,653 yard, 18-hole golf course surrounded by the majestic southern Rocky Mountains in Angel Fire, New Mexico. Open during the spring, summer and fall, the front nine incorporates a longer-playing layout that meanders through two unspoiled canyons of aspen, spruce, and pine, while the back nine offers links-style play with smaller greens and plenty of bunkers. The signature hole, #6, places the golfer on the tee box 200 vertical feet above the green, 239 yards away, surrounded by groves of aspen trees and towering pine. Fishing, Canoeing, Paddle Boards and Pedal Boats

The Monte Verde Lake on the east end of town is a beautiful spring fed lake to hike, fish, boat, paddle board or just relax on shore and enjoy a picnic. The lake is stocked with rainbow lake trout throughout the summer – perfect for a delicious family fish fry!

Fishing equipment, bait, stand-up paddle boards and pedal boats are available for rent at the lake for a nominal fee. Fishing permits are required and can be obtained at the lake if there is an attendant present or at the Angel Fire Golf Course membership office. The trail around the lake and the Lady Slipper trail are perfect for family hiking and biking. On the south end of the lake there is a floating dock for fishing or just relaxing.

An Escape From Everyday Fast Food

Want to eat where the locals go to eat – just pick a restaurant and enjoy! Angel Fire’s restaurants – from fine dining to cafes and pizza, bakeries and coffee shops – are all locally owned and operated, serving up some of the best northern New Mexico has to offer. Every place to eat offers family oriented options and prices range from a few dollars to a full five-course meal. The only ‘chain restaurant’ in town is a Subway, so venture out a bit and take in some local dishes! And as beautiful as it is here, virtually every eatery has an amazing view. So come on in for a tasty and relaxing breakfast, lunch or dinner. Sit and enjoy the company around you – never know when you’ll make a New Mexico friend!

The Enchanted Circle

New Mexico has long been known as The Land of Enchantment, and it’s only fitting that this designated scenic byway be called the Enchanted Circle. Angel Fire is located on the southern end of the 83-mile loop through mountains, valleys, mesa, and national forest and offers an ideal ‘starting point’ to explore the entire area – all unique to Northern New Mexico.

The Enchanted Circle is centered around Wheeler Peak, the highest point in the state.  Culture and outdoor recreation are abundant around the Enchanted Circle, so hit the road and get ready to discover what makes this region so spectacular.

Natural Surroundings

The Carson National Forest is one of five National Forests in New Mexico. The National Forests are America’s “great outdoors,” here to serve the American people at work and play! Some of the finest mountain scenery in the Southwest is found in the 1.5 million acres covered by the Carson National Forest. Elevations rise from 6,000 feet to 13,161 feet at Wheeler Peak, the highest in New Mexico. Our objective is to maintain that natural beauty.  The Carson National Forest offers unlimited recreational opportunities in any season.
